Light and Shadow

Light and Shadow
by Mamayana

Sleep drifted out of his grasp
Loneliness seeped through his soul
Eyes, wary and alert, opened quickly
He turned in his bed, finding no one.
As always, he was alone.
Love surrounded her being
Warmth came with her life
Snuggling deeper into her teddy bear,
She smiled softly, deeply, in slumber
She was, as always, never alone.
A naive girl with an open heart
Journeyed to the deep mountains
To teach the little angels God created
She would share more than she expected
Still, she was never alone.
A mysterious man with a broken spirit
Escaped his painful past, and traveled to a safer haven
Protection and Service he vowed
He did not see his Life changing
He might stop being alone
Fate drummed her restless fingers
On the ever moving glass table
Smiling a Mona-Lisa smile
She tilted her head to the side
Whatever would happen if
His dark path and her cheerful road crossed?
That. She thought mischievously,
Would certainly be interesting
With a snap of her fingers, wheels began to turn…
The moment she stepped off the aircraft
Her pulse spiked so fast
Jellybeans jumping, dancers top-dancing
It was exhilarating
She was never alone
He saw her through narrowed eyes
As the sun hit his cool black shades
Even as he frowned at her childish expression
His heart, long dormant, began to skip
Alone, still?
An eager teacher, a hardened soldier
What do they have in common?
Life.
But Fate has yet to intervene.
